My name is Tamara I. Soto Hernández. I am a Chemical Engineer of
the
University of Puerto Rico - Mayagüez Campus. Principally, my interest
in
math was what made me decide to study Engineering. However, my

participation in WIE Star Program in UPRM defined I wanted to study

Chemical Engineering.

When I enrolled in the university, I dedicated my first two years to adapt

myself to a totally different environmentHaving to live far away from my

home, made me develop resilience and independence because I had to

start doing daily activities which I did not do on my own. In my third year,

I decided to add new experiences which allow me to reinforce my skills

and acquire new ones. For this reason, I become part of student organization,
an
engineering program and a multidisciplinary research. In my fourth year,

when I felt prepared and empowered of my capacity to obtain experiences

in my field of study, I began working with Prof. María Curet - Arana in an

undergraduate research project in computational catalysis. In addition, I participated in the Summer 2020 Virtual REU Program at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. On August 2021 I began taking Master Degree level courses.

On June 2022, I graduated from the UPRM as Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. I approved the Fundamental of Engineering exam (FE) administered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES). Additionally, I became member of the Professional College of Engineers and Land Surveyors of Puerto Rico (CIAPR by its acronym in Spanish). I was certified by the Government of Puerto Rico and The Examining Board of Engineers and Land Surveyors as an Engineer-In-Training. After graduating, I moved to Ohio since I'm military spouse.

My goals are to find a full-time federal job in where I can gain experience and continue enriching my knowledge. Another option that I'm considering is to look for a part-time federal job and continue with my graduate studies to acquire a high level of education and develop myself for the professional life.
